Charles Shaw White Zinfandel
Origin: California, USA
My thoughts: Todd poured this wine in an opaque, navy blue coffee cup so the color wouldn’t affect my perception of the wine’s taste. We plan to do this with all chilled wines. I smelled the wine and it smelled very fruity, with a bit of apple scent. I tasted it and found it very (too) sweet. It had a very short finish, with very little depth. I wouldn’t buy this wine again because it’s too sweet for my liking. I did drink a glass of it the next day with a bit of sparkling water and orange peel, which was much better! I drank Boone’s Farm Tinkle Pink back in the 1970s and shudder to think how sweet I’d find that wine today.
Vendage California 2006 Merlot
I’m having lots of fun tasting and thinking about new wines. I’m an amateur wine reviewer so my descriptions are what I taste or smell or perceive, and may not include “professional” jargon and descriptions. The librarian in me looks at the wine’s label as though it were the cover page of a book being cataloged- what it says is what I write as the wine name.
Wine name: Vendage California 2006 Merlot
Origin: Woodbridge and Madera, California
My thoughts: Nice burgundy color. I would describe the aroma as cooked figs and cooked cherries – nice. I liked the taste; to me there was almost a carbonated feel in my mouth. The finish was medium. I would definitely buy this again.
