Epicuro Salice Salentino 2004

Epicuro Salice Salentino

Epicuro Salice Salentino

Wine Name: Epicuro Salice Salentino

Origin: Italy (Salice Salentino)

Cost: $6

Grapes: Negro Amaro (80%), Malvasia Nera (20%)

My Thoughts: The color of this wine was dark red with a brownish cast. It smelled like very ripe apples with a bit of oak. The finish was medium, and my first thought after tasting it was that it had a slightly sour but not unpleasant aftertaste. I tried it with a bite of hamburger, and the flavor was excellent. I’ll buy this again to eat with red meat. “Negro amaro” means black bitter, so perhaps the “sour” I tasted were the bitter grapes, which are from the Apulia region of Italy.
